Pray!

It is time for school to start again.  We must be vigilant as we drive and remember to observe the speed limits in school zones.  We want our students to be safe as they travel to and from school.  Considering the well-being and safety of others is the right thing to do.

Our school district goes to great lengths to protect our students and their teachers.  Every school employee undergoes a thorough background check.   Every school zone is clearly marked as a “no drug,” and “no gun” zone.  We hire School Resource Officers as a protection against malicious intruders.  These days, schools are “locked down” during the day, and no one is allowed to enter without permission.  We take all of these precautions because they are the right things to do.

Our prayers also offer a high degree of protection to our students and their teachers.  We want our students to be safe, so we ought to remember to pray for them each day.  Praying for Divine help is also the right thing to do.

So, I pray that no person, with intent to harm, would be allowed to enter any school facility.  Would you join me in asking that God would protect our students and faculty from any and all dangers?  We all appreciate the School Resource Officers and the employees that have the responsibility of protecting our students.  We should ask God to give them supernatural vigilance and wisdom.

Depression seems to be rampant.  I want to pray against depression of any kind; that our teachers and their students would be positive and happy in their duties.  Teachers, administrators, staff,  and students should experience joy in their daily activities, and I pray that joy will be cultivated at every level.

We might also daily pray for academic excellence for our students, that they would excel in their studies and master the concepts that are presented.  God can certainly enable students and instructors to understand and appreciate each other, and I ask Him for that.

In a society where suicide is common, I want to pray that no self-inflicted harm would come to any person in our school system.  I pray that students will get along well with each other, and that no one will be bullied by a classmate.  I ask for wisdom for school administrators in dealing with difficult disciplinary procedures.

I pray that students and teachers of faith will feel free to discuss their faith in a positive way.  Students have a right to read their Bibles and to pray in our schools, and I pray that they would exercise their rights in a non-disruptive way.

School is about to start, and I appreciate all the efforts that our school district has made to keep students and faculty safe.  Now, please join me in asking God to do the rest.  It is the right thing to do.

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.  (1 Timothy 2.1-4)

Good Ol’ Days

I remember stuffy August Sunday mornings. The only thing to stir the air in the Church Sanctuary was a hand held cardboard fan. The fan had a picture of Jesus seated in the garden on one side, and
